Functional Dry Needling (certified):

Fernando Pinhancos, MSPT (aka. Freddy) is Level I certified in Functional Dry Needling (FDN)!  This treatment technique is extremely effective for very stubborn muscle trigger points, scar adhesions within muscle tissue, and very tight muscles that have not responded favorably to stretching and deep tissue mobilization.  Sterile thin acupuncture needles are directly inserted through the skin into the underlying targeted muscle tissue.  Freddy will then carefully “needle” the trigger point or adhesion and break it up allowing for increased blood flow and tissue repair to take place.  This leads to improved muscle flexibility, length, and ultimately makes it more receptive to corrective strengthening exercises.  Freddy strongly believes that FDN is not appropriate for everyone and is most effective when incorporated into a comprehensive treatment plan that includes exercise as well as other modalities and manual treatment techniques.

Joint Manipulation (certified):

Fernando Pinhancos, MSPT (aka. Freddy) is certified in High Velocity Low Amplitude Thrust Joint Manipulation.  This type of joint manipulation is very effective for treatment of the spine especially when restricted joint mobility appears to be a major underlying factor in the individual’s movement dysfunction.  This joint manipulation technique typically painless as it does not strain the joint or attempt to move the joint into ranges beyond normal.  Freddy uses this technique, as appropriate, in conjunction with deep tissue release, myofascial release, therapeutic modalities, and a comprehensive exercise program to re-establish normal joint integrity.

Graston Technique (certified):

Graston Technique- GT is a trademarked therapeutic method for diagnosing and treating disorders of the skeletal muscles and related connective tissue. The method employs a collection of six stainless steel tools of particular shape and size, which are used by physical therapists to manipulate patients’ muscles in order to detect and resolve adhesions in the muscles and tendons.GT enables clinicians to effectively address scar tissue and fascial restrictions and maintain optimal range of motion in their patients through comprehensive training and education. GT is clinically proven to achieve faster and better outcomes for acute and chronic conditions such as Achilles Tendonitis, Carpal Tunnel, Adhesive Capsulitis, IT Band Syndrome, Lumbar Strain and Plantar Fasciitis and other musculoskeletal disorders.

Active Release Technique- ART (certified):

Active Release Technique- ART (certified) is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles. The ART certified physical therapist uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements to facilitate a healing / release response to that tissue.

These treatment protocols – over 500 specific moves – are unique to ART. They allow physical therapists to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting each individual patient.

Strength & Conditioning (certified):

Jason Ulisse has been a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) since 1999.  He is certified through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) to prescribe and train people who want to improve their physical performance for athletic activity (ie. Run faster, jump higher, move quicker, throw harder).  Jason maintains his certification to better enhance his skills as a physical therapist when prescribing appropriate exercises for all of his patients.  He has found this enhances his patient’s functional levels and outcomes for a safe return to normal activity.

While Jason thoroughly enjoys helping people of all ages enhance their athletic performance, it is not a service that is covered by your health insurance.  However, Jason has had the opportunity to meet many strength and conditioning specialists throughout the area and has been impressed by their ability to help our patients transition from a physical therapy setting to strength and conditioning.  The facility that we are the most impressed with is The Way Human Performance Institute located in Cranston, RI and we highly recommend The Way HPI For your strength and conditioning needs after successfully completing your rehabilitation with us.
